Into Collage

Following my previous post I have engaged in further development of collage as a way of working and have looked for further sources of inspiration for this. The initial influence that sparked my interest in collage was the work of Richard Meier, the architect, and his exploration of space usig ephemera from his travels associated with his work. Following further research I have become interested in the collages and paintings of David Wallace (salaczar.com) and his collaborative work on collage with Rebecca Trawick. David is based in Pittsburg and Rebecca in California. Their collaborative collages were constructed through correspondence via US mail - they never met in person. David's web site documents the development of this work showing the stages of development and gives an interesting insight into the exploration and consideration for 2D space using found and printed ephemera. My work takes inspiration form these artists and I am currently concentrating on using printed and found ephemera relating to music, predominantly from the 50's and 60's although there are a few pieces using 40's music ephemera.

I have been pleased with the majority of outcomes and have included some samples here. the work inspired by Richard Meier ends to be collage with further added media: acrylic, pencil, oil pastel; whereas other work which takes influence from David Wallace and other links from his website tend to be cut and paste with some use of rubber stamps.
